Let It Snow!

Though we had about a week and a half without any new snow, a good one hit us Sunday evening and Monday morning - about a foot. I sure could have used some help shoveling it. Kayla, Luke, Jordan and Olivia, where were you when I needed you??

When I saw this, I quickly thought of all you dog owners and lovers in the family. Enjoy it.

As Melissa said as she sent this to me: "This is the sweetest thing!" You'll see.

a Pre-Inaugural Message

A couple more pictures to enjoy from Christmas. Betsy and Melissa, as always, are out there having a great time and helping others do the same.

On this eve of a truly historic event, I reflect back on both the pre and post Civil Rights Act days (1964). When I was playing basketball in college, blacks couldn't play for certain "white" state supported schools like SWT. As we travelled in East Texas and LA, the Whites Only signs and segregated facilities were rampant. In my labor relations days in Rome, GA (1968 - 71), we had a wildcat strike because I gave a black a production job (Ain't no n----- can do my job!). Then, we had another when I promoted the same person to Foreman (I ain't gonna' work for no n-----!). Interestingly, many of the so-called educated managers were as bad as the hourly workers about blatant racism.

And we fast forward to tomorrow when we induct our first President of color, we, truly, "have come a long way, Baby!" In my opinion, we are a stronger country for the fact of the election. My fondest hope is that we'll be a much stronger country due to Obama's acts after the election.

But, as Dennis Miller says: "That's just me!"

Monk with His Cute Nieces

Though this is on Melissa's Blog, I couldn't resist adding it to mine also. Christopher seems to have a very special relationship with these two lovely, smart girls (objective Papa speaking). Monk wanted to read from one of his Finance books, but they opted for something more age-appropriate!

Kayla's New Puppy

Cute new puppy for Kayla. She's been saving for 6 mos or more to get this little Maltipoo (sp?). I understand it is one of the better breeds re lack of shedding and that's a good thing for Luke's allergies. Kayla, we can't wait to meet and play with him (her?). Name? Great work in your saving. I remember the big jar on the coffee table and how much it was filling up in July when I was in Houston. Glad I was able to help a little bit. I know you'll take really good care of your puppy. If not, watch out for Lindy - she'll be after you!!

Holly and Jordan, next??

Olivia and Jordan Skiing

Both girls took a lesson and this is Jordan's big smile after she finished hers. We then went to the "Magic Carpet" (conveyer belt - very clever) and had them practice turns and stops. Then, the highlight of the day - they skied off a chair lift and down a slope without a fall. It certainly ended on a high note. Congratulations Girls, you both did very well.

Now, Kayla and Luke, let's begin thinking about next year, OK?
